Radio Technician of the Year Award

Nomination Criteria.

 Deadline is February 28, 2009

 

Nominees must have been employed in the applicable category by a public safety agency any time between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008. Nominees do not have to be members of APCO.

Sample Responsibilities:

  1. Manages the installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment.
  2. Maintains knowledge of radio communications systems and equipment.
  3. Possesses experience in UHF/VHF radios, repeaters, digital/analog microwave and an extensive network of mobile radios.
  4. Demonstrates ability to work with many different user agencies.
  5. Possesses ability to provide information to assist in grant writing for radio.
  6. Prepares and maintains various records of maintenance and operation as required by the FCC including renewal of FCC licensing.
  7. Installs and/or oversees the installation of radio sites, antenna systems, security systems, carrier equipment (T1,DS3), emergency power generators, fuel systems, towers, transmission lines, and site alarm status reporting equipment.
  8. Maintains current experience in state of the art electronic equipment repair, including bench repair and radio transmitting and receiving equipment.
  9. Plans for infrastructure additions, site expansions and improvements as necessary to insure coverage and systems reliability.
  10. Develops and presents written and oral recommendations, budgets, and schedules for upgrading existing systems.

 The Awards Committee will review all nominations and select the finalist.

PRESENTATION OF AWARD

The Awards Committee of the Texas Chapter of APCO Inc. will announce as well as present the Radio Technician of the Year Award at the 2009 Spring Conference. This Telecommunicator will be presented with a year's membership to the Texas Chapter of APCO, an inscribed plaque, and expenses paid to the Spring Conference.
